Step 1: Environmental Stabilization and Cleanroom Prep

Before starting the calibration protocol, the laboratory environment must be thermally stabilized. Rapid shifts in ambient temperature distort resistance baseline readings. The technician configures the climate control system to maintain a stable environment. Clean all mounting surfaces on the calibration frame with isopropyl alcohol. This ensures no dirt compromises the mechanical interfaces.

Any surface contamination introduces minor movement that triggers false strain signals in the strain gauge wheatstone bridge. The physical torque equation dictates the relationship between force and sensor stress:

Step 2: Mounting the Calibration Jig and Checking Tolerances

Secure the crankset in the custom steel calibration fixture. Hand-tighten all clamping fasteners before applying a digital torque wrench to meet specifications.

Apply medium thread lock to all clamping bolts to avoid micro-slippage during loading cycles. The dial gauge indicator is mounted to perform slop detection. Radial runout must measure less than 0.02 mm before static loads are applied. Make sure the strain gauge centering matches the longitudinal axis of the crank arm. If the sensor is misaligned, lateral bending forces will corrupt the calculation.

Step 3: Execution of Static Loading and Calibration Offset Log

Connect the wheatstone bridge terminals to the data acquisition system. The technician logs the raw voltage output under zero load. This value is the zero calibration offset. Hang a certified 20 kg reference mass from the pedal thread interface with the crank arm locked horizontally. Verify that the output voltage shift is within the manufacturer's tolerances. We record the voltage response, unload the system, and check for hysteresis. Reapply environmental sealing grease to the battery cap threads once testing is complete.
